Think simple first. Try a different browser and see if you get the same 
behavior? I don't know Opera but some browsers (Safari for one) will 
let you set the user agent behavior, so it can imitate other browsers. 
At the very least Apple always bundles MSIE. Try that and see if the 
problem replicates?

If you can log on to the ISP over the web, and your e-mail is fine,  
then it does not sound like a hardware issue.
