From the speed specs at the site it would seem that the G3/500 upgrade is faster than the G4/450.

Advice and suggestions about which to purchase and why will be
appreciated.
Doing basic word processing, e-mail, etc.? You'll be happy with the G3, use the extra $20.00 bucks for beer.

Working with a lot of pictures, graphics or other applications that take advantage of the Altivec engine? Buy the G4. It does make a big difference with applications that can take advantage of Quart Extreme. Many programs that are being written for OS X can take advantage of the G4, so that may also be a consideration.

Ether one will be much faster than than your current set up.
