--- You wrote: Is there a video in preference somewhere that I have to change? Any other suggestions? --- end of quote --- First, just to make sure you are clear: forget the system for capturing video with the Wings card. It has nothing to do with the firewire connection. You capture from within Premiere.
I think Premiere works like Final Cut. It looks for the firewire camera connection when the program is started up. Final Cut actually says "can't find the firewire connection, continue?" before the program finishes start up. If you tell it to go ahead without the firewire connection, you can't connect a camera without restarting the program. I've only looked briefly at Premiere but I seem to remember it does the same. So make sure the camera is on and connected to the firewire board before starting Premiere. Obvious maybe, but it should work. There may be some firewire connection switches in Premiere preferences. Have you looked there? Are your firewire extensions turned on? There are two of them (firewire enabler and firewire support) in OS9 and Profiler may see the pci board without actually being able to use it without the extensions. If none of those work, try snagging a copy of iMovie. It should see and control the camera without a problem. At least you'll know if everything is working. Hope this helps.
