I'm going to ask this question one more time.
I have 2 Rev-A beige G-3s. The tower was my Brother's (a floor demo) the DT I bought off dBay--was a general purpose semi-public college machine (I could tell from stuff on the disk). I am running OS 9.2.
This machine will "hang" for 10 to 70 seconds at a time. Usually, the hangs are 10-20 seconds. It hangs but does not crash. This happens when in the finder. It happens when in an application. It happens when accessing the machine with appleshare.
I put a brand new 120Mg WD disk on it and made it super clean to solve problems. I have moved USB and ethernet cards around and pulled them off and all sorts of things.
I have used Diskwarrior, tech tools, and (cautiously) Norton.
The problem comes when I try to back up to the machine. If it hangs for more than 60 seconds, then the backup software, or file dragging, will drop the machine. Sometimes this causes a crash, sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes it will go days without hanging. Sometimes it will hang every 2-3 minutes.
This is unrelated to the USB card, the ethernet card, and it does it with the non-apple extensions turned off.
I have heard of others with this problem, but I have never heard of a solution.
Any ideas?
