Hey all

Found myself with some spare $ and got myself down to the RAM shop today - Got myself a 128M DIMM.
That all seems straightforward? Wait for this bit (although you've probably heard it before....) - I pop it on in
and it's only recognised as being 64M. Crap. In hindsight, I seem to recall that possibly it needs to have 8
chips on the actual RAM board, and this particular chip only has 4. Is that where my problem lies? I'm not
overly perturbed about it, just mildly annoyed - it only cost me $35 OZ - but I just want to know what the situation is.

Although, the upgrade from the previous 64 meg ram to my now 128 meg is instantly noticeable - I can run Pro Tools
Free now! Hooray! And Diablo II doesn't chug nearly as much as it used to....

Oh, also, the shop has single-sided 256 Meg chips - what's the deal with them? What I mean is, will my computer recognise them as
being 256 (or even 128? They're not much more expensive than the 128s at all, and maybe picking them up would be easier than looking for someone who sells 8 chip 128M DIMMs (or, god forbid, paying $$$$$ for double sided 256 meg chips...)

Oh, I'm on a Beige G3 266, ROM Rev. C.

Cheers,
Evan.
