I have a Cendyne 42-24-42 (or maybe it's a 42-16-42 I forget) which is
a rebadged Lite On LTR-48125W, bootable, works like a charm with the
current versions of OSX disk burner, etc...I don't know about OS9.

It does fit behind the bezel, but you gotta pop off the front of the
tray. (not hard...it has some tabs that fit into a couple slots on the
front of the tray. slide it straight up and it comes off.)

I ended up leaving the bezel off of mine so I could see the burn
lights. Drilling some properly placed holes in the bezel would work for
that, too.

This seems to be epidemic with Cendyne.

On a 52X24X52X Cendyne, I had the same problem.

I carefully removed about 3/32" on each side of the tray front, using a
Simonds "laminate file". Nicholson also makes such a file.

My old Yamaha 8424S drives received the same treatment.
