On the subject of beige usb problems. I stole this reply from Mac Observer forum. Thought it might be of use to someone. Me included.
"I had the same problem with a beige G3 running OS 9.2.2 in one of my schools. I installed the card so they could use a new Epson rpinter. But I could not get chooser to recognize the USB port. I tried a USB mouse and it would not power up. After a couple days of messing around with reinstalling the drivers from the OS 9.2.2 CD, etc. I went into the extensions folder and manually deleted all of the USB extensions, then used the USB Adapter Card Support 1.4.1 to install the drivers. The card then worked fine. About a month later my son called me with the same problem on his G3 tower. He'd bought a USB card to power a wireless mouse. When he tried my trick of manually deleting all the USB extensions then reinstalling from ACS 1.4.1, his wireless mouse came alive. Not sure why the supposedly "older" USB drivers from ACS 1.4.1 work better than the OS 9.2.2 versions on Beige G3's, but that's been my practical experience. Maybe the OS 9.2.2 versions kinda "forgot" about PCI slots?" -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
