Question; Is it worth it for a PCI MAC Edition RADION 32MB 7000 card? I am looking at $100 USD
Hard to say. It is a better card, but by a huge amount? Maybe not. Consider also a PC clone such as the Sapphire. goto allstarshop.com and search for 'Sapphire'. It'll be the only PCI card listed. $39, but you have to ask yourself how much your time is worth in case flashing it over to the Mac side of things goes awry.
What is the performance increase with a G4 ZIF upgrade at 400MHz/450MHz or 533MHz? Is it worth the ?200 USD
Again, can't say, but take a look at what apps you use. If none or few of them utilize the G4's Alti-Vec then I'd pass, because 400 or 450MHz just isn't that much faster than what you already have.
Is QUARTZ Extreme worth the $300 upgrades, I paid $300 for the unit.
No it isn't, but then again you don't need to spend $300 in upgrades to get Quartz Extreme. You DO need that Radeon (Mac or flashed PC version) and a simple hack to enable QE. Is it noticeable? Somewhat, they say. I'm running it on an (also) unsupported G3 and can't see much difference. If you play DVD movies or do anything else that depends heavily on the PCI bus QE (as an unsupported hack) degrades performance. QE floods the PCI bus, and non-AGP Macs can't take full advantage of that. Yes, PCI Macs can run QE, but the advantage isn't as great as it is with AGP Macs.
I am a UNIX junky and a MAC Hobbiest that plays some Quake2 and Quake III.
I've read that the old Voodoo 3 video card is also a little better than your Rage 128, particularly at some games. I wonder if the Quake series is applicable? Note that it doesn't do OS X.
