Dear G List:

This post is a follow-up to a message which I recently posted to this list.
It is included only in part.

I have a PowerMac G4 466 running both OS 9.2.2 and OS 10.2.6. On the OS 9
side, the G4's internal modem works perfectly well. The same cannot be said
of its performance on the OS X side.

To the best of my knowledge, I have configured the modem properly. I created
a new Location in Network called Sympatico Dial-Up. I have set the Network
Configuration to Internal Modem, selected PPP for the connection type,
entered the DNS numbers as supplied by my ISP, keyed in the user ID and
password as supplied by my ISP, and set the proper dial up number to access
their server.

After having done all this I launch Internet Connect and click Connect. The
modem tries to negotiate a connection. The modem dials in, reports it is
connecting, and then disconnects after a few moments. I have tried this
several times, each time with the same result.

After doing some more investigating, I stumbled upon something interesting:

I did a test under PPP Options in Network. I deselected all the check-marked
options and only selected the Terminal option and saved this configuration.
I launched Internet Connect and clicked Connect. After a few moments a
window popped up asking me for my Sympatico user id, which I promptly
entered and then hit Return. The system then asked me for my Sympatico user
password, which I promptly entered and then hit Return. A couple of moments
later the modem established an Internet connection.

Why is it that when using the Terminal method I can establish an Internet
connection without a problem, but when I use the Internet Connect itself
without the Terminal option selected the modem has difficulties establishing
a connection?

Roland :(
