I fixed the problem with Open Firmware by unplugging the G3 and pulling the PRAM battery for an hour. I was then able to boot into OS 9 and OS X (both installed on the hard drive), but when I tried to boot from the Jag CD, it hung up in Open Firmware again. I pulled the PRAM battery for several minutes again and it could boot from the hard drive. So this might not be a problem for me, but I would feel more comfortable if I could boot from an OS X CD.
