Hello Franz,

What I did to add the second EIDE/ATA HD is to get a 36" IDE cable from my
local computer shop and replaced the original IDE cable and run it up
through the hole leading to the CD drive. Since there was already an extra
power connection by the Zip drive that was all I needed. I secured the new
drive in place with double-sided foam sticky tape in three places to keep it
from moving around and to minimize any vibrations. This is working great for
me and my DT.

Remember though, if you put OSX on, it needs to be on the first partition
and you have to set that partition to be less than 8Gig. i.e. 7.7 or 7.9
Gig. From what I understand this is a "limitation" only on the Beige G3
model.

Good luck,

Jim

Subject: How to set HD on G3 DT

Hi all,

Bought a G3 DT from eBay, 3 gig scsi, (main drive), revision 3, RAM 320 MB,
Zip, CD-ROM, Floppy, USB 4 slot PCI. The 3 gig drive is a bit noisy, I am
not sure how long it will stay alive, I have also a 13 gig ATA drive, not
connected. I used it for back up with the Zip connection. Bought also a Zif
G4, 466mhz, not arrived to now.

Checked out local that a scsi drive 36 gig cost me here $200, a 9.1 gig
$130, a 40 gig ATA cost me about $70, would like to have OSX installed on a
partition and 9.2.2 on another partition.

What I have to do to connect the 13 gig (or a 40 gig) in the bottom bay, I
can't see any free connection for it, have seen a free power connection. I
would like to keep the Zip and the CD.

Can I have a 40 gig ATA drive in the bottom bay and install the OSX and the
9.2.2 on this drive and use it as start up drive? Not using the main drive
at all.

What is your advice?

Still work on it to get of that G3 the maximum out, any advice is welcome.

Franz Bangkok
