I'm sure everything up to the G4 Quicksilver 733 can boot to 9. After that, things get fuzzy...
The first MDD's ( the wind tunnels) were still dual boot. The FW800's were not, although they have offered a single Dual 1.25 model (still on the Apple web site) that is.

There is an icon in System Prefs in OS X called "Login Items." Use this to add items you want to launch after the computer has started up. Not sure if F keys are programmable in OS X, but don't think they are. Small price to pay if you ask me... ;)
You're correct. OS X does not support "F" keys, however, there are some shareware programs, Quick Key's for one, that will give this capability.
