several comments related to both threads: the Rev 2 board will almost take any G3 or G4 upgrade; the question is if it is worth it. You will have to judge that for yourself. My professional service friends tend to prefer a G4 to a G3 even if it is slower in Mh. I have two Rev 2s running here, one an original 300mh - whoever said there was no such thing is wrong: Yosemites were released with 300, 350, 400, and 450 mh - with Sonnett 500mh upgrade and 512mb, and the other an original 400 with 640mb. For certian things, the 500 is nocticably faster, but I must admit that the 100mh difference between them was much greater when the 300 chip was still in place. I also think the ample ram plays a big role here. Both are running 10.2.8. It you intend to go to X, which I highly recommend!, don't go for el cheapo ram; it may work but it may fry, too. X is extremely critical about ram but it also needs a good portion. As an example, my two week old iBook 800 with only 128mb (a second 256mb chip is on order) is considerably slower than my G3 400 with 640mb. The Rev 2 has no problems with the IDE bus so you can put in any IDE drive you want, configuring master/slave. Rev 1s need an additional IDE card to run master/slave. Under X, optimizing is not necessary, some say even detrimental. My own experience is that it is at best a waste of time. It is entirely enuf to run FSCK in single user mode. Despite all the disparaging comment it gets, the Yosemite Rev 2 is a very stable workhorse which was built for continuous service and does that. Mine runs 24/7 without a gripe. The best measure to speed it up are (in this order): as much ram as possible; at least 512 newer, bigger and faster IDE drives faster processor, tho I don't think more than 500 is worth the investment.
