The "alternative" we're starting to see a lot around here is picking up an early iMac off flea bay and using it as the iTunes-Apple music store box. Several of the local peecee geek type teenagers now have an Apple in their rooms just for iTunes/AMS use. (I guess that will all stop next week?) <G>
I have not heard of any method of using iTunes with OS 8.6.
