Recently, CompUSA had a Siig USB/Firewire combo card at $39.00, which
was a $40 savings off their regular price. However, I didn't purchase
it because nowhere on the box or at Siig's web site did it mention
anything about Mac support. I recall reading thread on this list before
concerning cards that worked both platforms.

Would it have worked?

Maybe. Probably, in fact.

I have had three combo cards. One is a "no name", the second another no name
from Cyberguys, the other a Smart Disk.

I replaced the no names with the Mac supported Smart Disk card, because I had
been seeing some intermittant behavior on the firewire side, during video
digitizing and video output and when connected to my firewire drive.

The Cyberguys card went back to them. The other no name has been in my wife's
Supermac and my PowerPC 7600 at work and has done fine with my firewire drive in
both machines.

And I've seen occasional firewire intermittence during video work in the Smart
Disk card. But I think that may have been cured since I added a couple of extra
cooling fans to my Beige MT. They blow right on the pci boards, so overheating
could have been the problem with all the cards. In addition to the combo card,
there's a Radeon 7000 and an ata 133 card tightly packed in there, so it might
have been toastier than the firewire card would have liked.

Who knows?
