Hello list,
I've acquired a 3" fan for my desktop for auxiliary cooling, but I have question: how can I plug it up?
The fan has a two-pin female plug, but there's no available "outlets" on the motherboard...is anyone who are using their upper or zip bays on their beige desktops using extra cooling? If so, how are you powering the thing?
Any and all help is appreciated, thanks.
Well, one method I've use is to grab a small screwdriver (or a pocket knife) and use it to push the metal tabs in on the fan's plug in order to pull the wires out. These springy leads can be wedged into a drive power plug and secured in place with electrical tape.
You can also grab a power splitter (y-adapter for the drive power plugs) or an extender. Cut a black and a red wire off the drive-end, strip the wires and wedge them into the fan's plug. Secure with tape.
