Hello, Today I installed an UltraATA 133/100 Pro controller card into my G3-MT computer and I actually got it to show the 80GB HD that I attached it to! I had partitioned the drive into 5 sections with OS 9.2 on the first 8GB partition. I want to try to install OS 10.2 onto this same partition. Everything showed up fine. However, the User's Manual says I should initialize the drive before I use it. What does this do to improve the use?
No. If you can see the drive, you don't need to initialize it.
Also, the ribbon is too short. I can connect the ribbon but whenever I want to open the computer I will have to disconnect one end. Is there a coupler available that allows me to connect another ribbon so the total will be long enough?
No, but the answer's easier than that, just get a long enough cable in the first place...shouldn't be more than a few bucks at a decent electronics or computer shop.
