Then you're using the wrong tool. If you're placing lots of large photographs, what you want is a page layout app. I used to use Pagemaker as my main word processor...no lie. Much better at managing things like illustration-heavy docs. Since you're running OSX, there's not another word processor Ican wholeheartedly recommend, by Nisus Writer is one to watch. The OSX version is behind the OS 9 version (since it's a total rewrite based on an entirely different program) but they're working on it hard.
