For the home user I recommend using Data Rescue X or going the pay per quota route of Virtual Labs. Data Rescue X is $69 and it will retrieve a lot of things that the directory has lost. Virtual Labs Data rescue will retrieve almost anything, but you pay for it. $119 /5gb. I use them as a professional with unlimited quota. They are flawless. Especially since you can search by file type or extension. It is a pay by quota service though. You must have an internet connection, but it works. Let me know if you want more info. Or google it. I do not work for them, but as a tech their service has saved my butt many times. Much less expensive than a true data recovery company like drive savers. -- Kyle H.
