I've had no problems with 10.2.8 update, but some folks have had issues. Before going back to 10.2.3, try all the usual suspects with disk utility, permissions fix, etc.
If all else fails, and going back to 10.2.3 is the only option, be sure and do an "Archive and Install" and put a check mark in "Preserve users and network settings."
