i've never seen a spam filter that didn't cause problems. what does work, is spamcop at spamcop.net, i've used them to report spam for a long time and a friend got one of their filtered email accounts and it works perfectly because it looks for servers known for spam and they also use dummy mailboxes designed to attract spam so any email you get that matches those emails is also known to be spam. finally, you are more than likely getting so much spam because you and your' friends use outlook, outlook address books are often mined for email addresses via viruses etc.
