Still deciding between Quicksilver and MDD. I notice that MDD has V.92 modem. I have read that V.92 modem allows one to take telephone calls while on a dialup Internet connection.
I have not seen any discussion of this capability (positive or negative) on any listservs, forums etc. and do not find anything in archives.
Has anyone had any experience with V.92 and taking voice calls while online?
V.92 is essentially enhanced V.90. Both ends of the circuit must support V.92. It connects quicker than V.90, tends to give you slightly faster carriers, and supports MOH (Modem-On-Hold), the feature you're talking about.
MOH is simple: The modem sees a call-waiting interruption and permits you to take the call. When you hang up, your modem retrains the connection with the remote, assumin it hasn't given up / timed out.
Works ok. But requires both an ISP that supports it and that you pay for call-waiting. Not that exciting, IMO. ADSL, with true simultaneous voice and data capability is better. :)
