It's really easy to spot one. Hold the two ends of the CAT 5 wire together, with the RJ 45 plugs next to each other. Look carefully at the color and order of the wires. If they are the same then it's a standard cable. The colors are different then it's a "crossover" cable. You're right in that there is a web site with the color codes and the jacks nicely illustrated, but it's an easy eyeball item if you have the cord.
