Subject: sync newton to OS9.1 desktop From: Melvin Watts <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
I have a newton 2100 that I want to sync with my pb1400 running OS 9.1. Can any one tell me which connection connection utility would be best, and how to set everything up?
You are looking for the Newton Connection Utilities V1. This is available from Apple in their older software libraries and can also be found on the main Newton Software archive at <www.unna.org>. There is good documentation included with the utilities. Simply put, the NCU installer will install the needed software on the 1400 and the needed software for the Newton is already on the Newton.
After the software is installed, connect your Newton to your 1400 using a serial cable. Start the NCU application on the Mac. In the NCU preferences select your serial port on the 1400 for the connection. Open the Extras on the Newton. Again you will need to select serial for the connection. Once that has been set you select connect on the Newton and the 1400 and Newton should establish communication with each other. The Dock application on the Newton and the NCU application on the 1400 have the same option and you can work from either the Newton or from the 1400 to perform the operations. This is pretty simplified, but it should be sufficient to get you going.
I would suggest to continue to try and subscribe to the NewtonTalk List. Their are many connection option available beyond what I have covered and you will find more helpful, useful information on the NewtonTalk List.
