I have the same problem with an old G3/233/DT rev 1 (13gig Maxtor IDE, 256
mb); it works fine with 9.1 but does pretty much what you describe when I've
tried to install 9.2 - the blank dialog box and a freeze during start-up.

Other than that, machine works fine (as network mail/fax server). I've
thought about upgrading to a rev. 2 ROM to see if it cures this glitch and
for IDE slave support  but have never gotten around to it.

I'm pretty sure it's a Mobo/hardware issue, since all the other G3 Beige
machines I've owned were rev.2 or 3 and ran 9.2.2 just fine.
