I recently upgraded the ram in one of my 6400/200 machines. At first I kept getting a "Bus Error" message and now the machine refuses to boot. I get the start up chime and then nothing.

I presses the cuda switch as the instructions said to do and still nothing. I tested the clock battery and it was 1.7 volts... I replaced that and it still doesn't want to start up. I've also swapped the various ram modules around and it doesn't make any difference.

I have a 6400/200 with a G3 installed, I had this happen a couple times after changing something.

Try zapping the PRAM deeply, hold down command-option-p-r all through 5 or 6 boot cycles (holding these keys down at boot, it will just reboot and reboot, each time clearing a little more deeply the PRAM settings).

Once other time I had to boot from the original 6400 disk to get it to come back to life; generic OS install disks would not work, although they had previously (8.6 era here). Have you tried booting to a CD? If a regular OS install CD is not working, try the one that came with the 6400. I suspect PRAM issues in both cases.

And I assume you've tried it with only the "known working" RAM installed? You do realize that the RAM for the 6400 is a little unique, I forget what the spec is but it needs you to be aware at ordering. See www.macsales.com for info on RAM, www.zone6400.com for other tips, they have a good search engine. You also might want to remove any Quicktime Firewire extensions that might have crept in somehow
