Since updating to OSX 10.3.4 and running the latest Security Update, I'm

SYMPTOMS

On Classic Startup a message is displayed indicating a problem with
QuickTime although the latest version of QuickTime for OS9 is appropriately
loaded into the System Folder (QuickTime 6.0.3):

Hmm, I have QT 5.0.2 in my Classic System Folder.

"The version of QuickTime installed in the Mac OS9 System Folder used by Classic is not Recommended."

Upon clicking <Continue> another message is displayed:

"There is a problem with updating the Classic-specific files. Classic is
unable to update its files in "System Folder" at "B-OS9."

Clicking okay at this point terminates the start-up process.

DISCUSSION

1. Upon encountering the problem, I fixed permissions on the OSX partition,
went to the Install Disk and ran Disk Utilities to repair the disk. No
errors were encountered in either process. OS9.2.2 is operating system.

2. I restarted the computer in OSX and encountered the same problems again.
At this point I repeated (1.) and reinstalled OS9.2.2, and then repeated
(1.) again.

3. The computer boots directly into OS9 without issue.

At this point, my wife's G3 remains unable to start Classic. Comments and
recommendations would be appreciated.

FWIW, I'm running much of the same software on my Pismo and
encountered no issues with application of any updates.

Try tossing the QuickTime prefs. Check the versions of all the QuickTime Extensions and try removing them from the QuickTime Extensions (put them in a temp folder).
