It's a Lite-on, but it works flawlessly in my system (G4 Sawtooth). I have another Lite-on at home that booted perfectly fine in my beige G3 (same mobo as the AIO). I suspect you iply got the wrong model or a broken drive.

Institutions do not have opinions, merely customs
supported and bootable as I would like to eliminate the original CD-ROM
drive and free up another IDE channel. The Yamaha CDRW4416 I have in
there now is fully supported for all burning functions, but it is not
bootable. I have my Zip drive on the primary channel with the HD, and
the 2 CD drives on the secondary channel, so this would allow me to move
the Zip over to the secondary channel and add another HD down the road.
