Um, actually the list server just may be acting up. Harold, or whatever his name is, might have actually discovered this, although flooding the list with his personal problem mails isn't exactly appropriate. As suggested some slack may be in order, however.

I am new to this list but have been on several others. I just recently subscribed here but I also requested to go on digest. I get confirmations but have yet to be put in digest mode. Maybe the server is not in the mood to grant requests like "unsubscribe" and "digest mode". Actually maybe it has been a good thing for me since I've found archiving my own selected list messages is easier in regular feed mode than sifting through digests.
