Yes, the 6500 is a SCSI CD-ROM drive. You can use either one in a Beige G3, but the original drive is an ATA. So if you install one of these SCSI drives, you'll have to use the other cable. As mentioned, you can tell which is which by the size of the connector. SCSI is a larger 50pin vs ATA's smaller 40pin.
Although either does work, everything has mostly gone to ATA, so I'd probably lean that way if you have to buy a CD-ROM. While you are at it, you might want to hit up the xlr8yourmac.com drive compatibilty database and look into installing a cheap CD-RW. Even a 266MHz machine can do a good 32x cd burn... so long as you don't try to do other things at the same time. Just a thought...
