AND/OR if the manufacturers of these cards don't support them in OS X (so they say they are not compatible) but they actually work in OS X.

This is my guess. I know mine works, but of course everyone is free not to believe me if they wish.

And by the way, suggesting someone is an idiot and/or liar probably isn't the best way to get help with a problem.

No such "suggestion" was ever made or intended, sorry you took it that way.

That's the problem with email, it doesn't translate inflection, tone, humor, sarcasm, etc. well.

The fact is I have been getting frustrated with the information provided by Apple and these SCSI card manufacturers not providing info. that is helpful or necessary. I was merely pointing out the discrepancies between the info.available and users actual results. You chose to interpret that I was calling you a liar.

An example of lack of useful info. (not the link you provided, what happens once there!) :

I did install this: <http://www.attotech.com/software/driver3.html> firmware update, but being it's straight from ATTO I don't think it qualifies as "modified".

That link is for firmware update 1.64 BUT there is no instruction on that ATTO page or with the download itself that explains what the update is for, what it does or who needs to install it. (As an earlier lister described, this may flash the firmware back to ATTO from what the Apple OEM cards had... don't really know, though). You can't always assume that the latest firmware is always what is best for your hardware.

The installer launches Classic and this is all it says.

Option Action
------ ------
1 Update only ExpressPCI UL2Ds with older firmware versions
2 Update all ExpressPCI UL2Ds unconditionally
   3 Do not update
