You could easily see positives for the new iMacs if you were so inclined. The new models have brighter, sharper, and easier to read displays, weigh less, and cost less than the G4 models. The display and weight differences are even greater when comparing the G5s to the G3s. Display quality, weight and cost* are frequently important factors to persons with disabilities.

Moreover, the G5s iMacs are not locked in to a single configuration, as were the G3s and G4s. Using the VESA bracket, available next month, the end user can have the computer mounted where and however it best serves individual needs, including on wheelchairs and scooters, and in customized workspaces. With VESA arms, screen positioning can be even more flexible than the G4 models allowed. No, that isn't out-of-the-box usability, but what computer maker offers a better special needs configuration out-of-the-box?

The power button is in a difficult position, but the machine is very easy to turn on it's foot. Once the machine is rotated, the dexterity issue is moot. A power button is a power button is a power button--no matter where it is.

*Weight comparisons, in US lbs:

                G5 G4 G3 eMac

15 n/a 21.2 34.7 n/a
17 18.5 22.8 n/a 50
20 25.2 40.1 n/a n/a

Finally, you mentioned educational pricing. Here are the current US educational list price ranges:

eMac $749 to $899
iBook $949 to $1399
iMac $1199 to $1799

A triumph for Steve Jobs -- a Mac almost totally unusable out-of-the-box by the handicapped among us...

The CD slot is high and to the right, well out of reach of many wheelchair users.

And the power/boot button is on the BACK. So you have to not only have the Mac close enough to the edge of the desk to reach, but you have to have the dexterity to find the button blindly and "push" towards you.

OTOH, this is August and Apple has NOTHING except boat-anchor heavy eMacs and $1000+ laptops for the educational market!
