Other than that, I would like to have a couple more PCI slots in my B&W. The
onboard IDE is 33MHz and I would like to install a SATA or 133MHz IDE
controller.
Ok, but both are going to be hobbled by the bus speed anyway, especially SATA; that's like putting a blown 289 V8 in a Yugo...
The Onboard Firewire Ports are problem-matic and require a PCI card.
In some B&W's...I've not seen any yet.
I picked up a Radeon 7000 for the Dual Monitor capability.
SCSI Card, this is always a good idea, pee cee or mac.
Only if you have SCSI devices, and actually, in the modern world, it's not 'always a good idea'...there isn't a whole lot of SCSI stuff out there anymore.
Airport/Wireless networking. Apple in their arrogance never made the B&W
AirPort capable so suck up a another card for a IEEE 802.11/b/a/g wireless
card.
Get a DWL810+ or DWL810g from D-link. Plugs into the ethernet port and makes it wireless. Plugs into *anything* with a ethernet port and makes it wireless. Moreover, I've never really seen the point of a wireless desktop link...but I've got no problems with stringing cable.
If you were keeping count you ran out of fingers a while ago.
Video -1 Combo FW/USB 2.0 -1 slot Upgraded drive controller -1 slot
If you're slapping more into a B&W, get a newer Mac...the Sawtooth AGP G4 is cheap now and is going to get loads cheaper when people see how good the iMac G5's are, and that's got a faster bus, graphgics and memory...
Your point about how Macs last longer and people upgrade them, well, no, they really don't. You hang out with a lot of people who do that, but by and large most people run just the system they got.
