I have a different network problem--I need to have Windows XP Pro (via VirtualPC on an iMac 800) "see" the printers that the iMac already wirelessly accesses through an Asante router. I have a LaserWriter Pro 630 and a Dual 2 G5 wired (Ethernet) to the router and an HP 952c wired (USB) to the G5. Both Macs are on 10.3.5.

I also have Windows XP Pro, via VPC, on an iMac 800. My printers are a LaserWriter 16/600 and an HP AIO. The LaserWriter is connected to the parallel printer port on the Asante router and the HP is connected to an ethernet port.

Verify that you have enabled networking in the Virtual PC Settings (Command + T, once VPC is running, or access the settings from the menu at the top of the screen)

You should be able to set up a printer by doing the following:
1 - Under the Start Menu, click on Printers & Faxes
2 - Select Add Printer
3 - Using the Printer Wizard, select "a network printer, or a printer attached to another computer"

For our LaserWriter I used "create a new port" and I used our router's address for the IP address (The IP address will be something like 123.456.789.012)

You will need to install the HP's software into Windows XP before setting it up for printing. The port for our HP show up when I selected "create a new port"

One odd thing that had me stumped when trying to set up printing was the uselessness of the "Print Icon" in programs like Word. I could only print by selecting "print" from the File Menu in Word. The Print Icon only accesses whichever printer is set as the default.

If you did a standard install of VPC there is a section on "How to Print using Virtual PC" that might shed some more light on things.
