It was simply a matter of the power supply having a straight passthrough port for the monitor instead of making it go through a switch and relay system.

It should be noted that this only applied to the tower version. If you had a desktop Beige G3 it used a Mac power supply (instead of a near ATX) similar to the PM76/75/73/7200's and they did have a switched auxiliary power port.
