Agree with that! And therefore I believe there are 2 clever ways to get rid
of unnecessary stuff in a save way:
1) Fresh installing: Do a custominstall. See example below.
2) Installed OS X: Make a backup and go to 1)

Example:
I just made e fresh install of 10.2.8 on a beige G3. Is mainly used for mail
and web. Has no need of airport, bluetooth, iChat, iPod, Palm etc. Only
needs 4 languages {english (iaf), dutch, german and french}. So I did not
install unneeded items. Differs a lot of space on the <8 GB partition and
makes the old beige faster and smoother.
