Not necessarily. The ISP would only need to be involved if you wanted the reverse lookup of the IP to resolve back to the domain name. If you have control of the DNS records yourself for the domain in question then you can point the relevant entries to whatever IP address you like (obviously it has to be one you control otherwise any traffic will likely be rejected - in http hosted terms at least). That said, you may find that your ISP is blocking inbound traffic on some ports, and as has been mentioned there may be restrictions in the T&Cs. As a related point, if you didn't have a static IP (which is always better for these things) you could sign up to one of the dynamic DNS services to manage the changing IP of your connection. One thing I would recommend is looking carefully at the security issues. I know Mac is not going to have the gaping holes associated with Windows, but by pointing a domain name at your IP you are increasing the interest that may be paid to your machine when connected (I assume if you are hosting a web site this is likely to be 24x7). At the very least I would look at a personal firewall (I'm assuming you can get these for Macs, I personally don't like them, so I'm only really aware of those you can't avoid!). Ideally I'd look at a separate box - you may already have this setup by using a router/firewall for your connection - and using port forwarding for just the http traffic on port 80. -- Paul Tansom | Aptanet Ltd. | http://www.aptanet.com/ -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
