"Ok, a bit of a quandry for me. I am trying to get a usb printer up and running on a g3/266mt/ (upgraded with sonnet encore g4/500 zif). Using 9.2 with 384mb ram.
I have a pci usb card that has been tested in my 7300(os8.6) and appears to work fine when I select "chooser" and the hp 812 printer shows up with the little usb icon on the right side. printer works fine. When I move the same card to my other computer, I hit chooser, the same hp 812 does not have a usb icon to select. When I attempt to print something, it will sit for a few seconds and tell me that the printer is not available and that maybe my printer cable is not connected properly (it is). The driver for the printer is the same. I tried the updated driver for the generic card, I think I disabled all the usb extensions for 9.2 and used the extensions from the updated usb download. And experimented. And getting frustrated.
Any ideas?"
Make sure you have the USB drivers installed in the extension folder in your system folder. If your USB card is not present when the OS was installed, it will not detect the USB card (because it wasn't there at the time) and install the appropriate drivers. Those drivers should be found on your OS disc. Hope this helps.
