I would like to take Quicktime movies and make them into DVD's or
VCD's. Whats the best format to use to export from Quicktime, to burn
onto a DVD or VCD to work on my DVD player?

Thanks

You don't tell us which Operating System you are using which might make a
difference.

In either 9 or X, you can translate most movie files to other formats if you get
Quicktime Pro, which costs an extra $30 for a serial number from Apple. This is
worth doing.

Once you have Quicktime Pro you can convert files to a format that Titanium
Toast will accept. TT will then compress and burn VCDs for you. It does a very
good job, but the compression does take time. There are versions of Titianium
Toast that will run on 9 or X. You need only a normal CD burner to burn VCDs.

I'm not familiar with any DVD creation tools but iDVD which is easy to use and
does a good job. To use it, you need some version of OSX. You must have an
internal Superdrive, which is one of the Pioneer DVD burners DVD-r 103 through
the newest, which is 108. These used to be quite expensive, but now can be had
for $100 or so. They must be mounted on an internal ata bus or iDVD won't run.
Some versions of iDVD are said to require a G4 processor, but I can't confirm
that this is true. In any case, the compression process is slow. I usually
leave it running overnight and find my finished disk in the morning.

I've made lots of both VCDs and DVDs using these programs and they've always fun
fine on DVD players.

Hope this helps.
