Tom W. writes, 1. <I am trying to get a browser functional on my wife's imac 333 in os 9. I have installed the latest build of wamcom, but it seems to choke whenever trying to download. It acknowledges a download in the status bar at the bottom of the screen, but doesn't actually d/l anything. The DL manager never opens.>
I never got as far as to try to d/l anything with wamcom. When I tried it, it took nearly ten mins to just load a page, and I immediately lost my patience with it and threw it in the Trash. 2. <Tried icab and there was a reason why I abandoned that. Just can't remember at the moment.> iCab, though not nearly as bad as wamcom, is still slow and chokes up after awhile perhaps? That's my experience with it. I still have it on my Mac, but I only use it as a backup browser, when my Netscape is messing up. So far, the only browser I ever found to be even halfway decent as a primary web surfing and downloading application is Netscape (I have 4.75 on my G3 beige DT233), and although obviously -- seeing that I keep iCab around as a secondary browser -- I can't and won't claim that it's perfect, I still recommend it. And it's just as likely that what few problems I do have with it are more related to the facts of my dialup connection and having to use such an old version of it (the newest versions are for OS X, and though I've tried to get some of the ones higher than 4.75 but not the current 7.x which is OS X, even with repeated attempts on Google I've never had any luck finding where to d/l them), than to the possibility of it being a bad program. 3. <Tried Explorer, but she has gotten too used to no popups.> And, may I ask, what browser was she using which enabled her to get used to no popups? Note that I said "so far" I found Netscape to be the best browser I'd tried, but I *am* willing to look for a better one if I can find it.
