Steve,
I too have that router, and went round and round setting up my iMac Flat Panel with an Airport card. After much digging on Apple's web site I found that my hexadecimal password required that I type "$" in front of the password when using the Airport Setup assistant.

A little clarification is in order. While it is commonly called a password it is really an encryption key. 802.11 hardware is really looking for a hexadecimal number, not a word. Apple made it easier for people using all Airport hardware / software by letting them enter a word. The software turns this into a hexadecimal number for you. The problem comes when using Apple Airport software on your laptop and a third party router or a windows machine with an Airport base station. The Apple parts expect you to enter the encryption key as a word while the other equipment is expecting the hex number. For this reason Apple will display the hex number so you can enter it into non-Apple software and it will accept the hex number in Apple software if you prefix it with a $ (which is a standard means for indicating hex).

Some other 802.11 software uses a word to generate the encryption key but use a different algorythym than Apple. This is because there is no standard for this word to hex number conversion.

Use John's suggestion to access the router from the wired Mac and find out what the password should be. Then take a look at Apple's article 106424 "AirPort: Joining an encyrpted wireless network." That should help you figure out which characters you might need to add.

I also found it helped to restart the router and all the Mac's connected to it. Yeah, I know you should not have to restart a machine running OSX...
