<I need to add more memory to my G4 mirror tower. I haven't a clue what to buy or where to get it. Would I get a good deal at an Apple Store?>
Let me echo several comments that Apple is not a price-effective source for RAM, and that OWC and (my favorite) Data Memory Systems are very good sources. Let me also say, as I frequently do, that a great information source is http://www.ramseeker.com/ where you can compare a number of vendors for memory (and shipping) costs, and see price trends, too. They report dozens of price changes daily--check it out.
