I have, of course, a blue drive... sigh...

Saturday I can try it on my friend's Beige G3 running 10.2.8 with a USB card. I actually bought it for her so she could sneakernet some work files from a PC back home to her Mac and so on... She will have some different floppies to try out... This is not supposed o be more trouble than it is worth...

If her PC at work has USB ports, have her get one of these (or one of the many many competitors):

They ROCK. We use them all the time here, one's living in my pocket right now; you can generally get a 256 megabyte one pretty cheap (Costco sells them for $30 I think...they've just started carrying the 512 MB ones for $48 which was the old price for the 256 MB ones)

If her PC runs anything newer than Win98 she just plugs it in and poof, it's a drive in My Computer. On a Mac, same thing, any USB capable (card or built-in) Mac OS 8.6 on up, plug it it, it pops up on the desktop. Seamless.

Vastly more reliable than a floppy disk drive. Much greater capacity (You can get ones up to a gig now)

I've lost data on one of these once, and it was because I didn't properly eject it from my mac, scrambled the directory, I had to reformat it.

Check the weekly circulars from placed like CompUSA, Circuit City, Office Max, etc, they often have deals for smaller ones (128, 64 MB) where they're free or very cheap after rebate.
