Trying to figure this one out, and not having much luck so far. A friend has an iMac DV 400, 80 gig hard drive, 320 mb memory, nothing out of the ordinary, running OS 9.2.2, which has two seemingly unconnected problems. First, the control strip will start to creep upward as the machine is being used. It will go about 1 inch up from the bottom of the screen, and then stay there. If the computer is restarted, it will stay in the higher position until it is dragged back down to the bottom.

Problem number 2: Web browser behavior, via dialup, is unusual in that once a page is loaded, and then left, returning to it causes the browser to reload the entire page from the net, instead of from the cache. This happens with IE 5.17, and also with Netscape 7. I even installed Opera to see if it would make a difference, but that was even slower. All the browsers are configured properly, and I can't find anything else set wrong.

I've tried trashing some preference files, such as Finder, desktop, control strip, internet, and possibly others I can't remember at the moment. This seems to temporarily correct the problems, but then after 10 minutes or so, they're back.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Carl Kehley
