Found out the server, or the router probably, forget which, was an 8.6 and all of the scientific probes which were serial port based, ran on 8.6 also. The tech guy, who doubles as a physics/phys ed teacher, went into detail about how much it would take to upgrade the system, I don't mean financially just the work involved, and it seemed enormous so he was leaving things as they are for now. It seemed kind of strange that a high school that is about to pump graduates out into university would not be near the cutting edge at all. My grade school daughter is learning HyperStudio, just to add fuel to the fire. Does anyone still use that in the real world? I guess my point is, if the computer is a tool and in the high school it is, at least in the science labs and math classes, then sticking with what works, is fine. And 9.1 doesn't seem to work for them and none of their hardware will be able to use OS X anyway, so I can see the high school sitting there for years chugging away on 8.6. Anyway, it is frustrating from a parent's point of view that the Mac equipped school is so far behind the times but from an antique computer collector's point of view, it's like stepping back into a time bubble. OS X, just like windows XP was a hardware change as well as an OS change. Everyone was trying to drag us up forcibly into the new millennium but there are lots of people who were quite happy staying behind in the 20th century. Hope that made sense. :) bm -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
