Actually, now that I think about it in a non-overcaffeinated condition, it
really shouldn't matter what the wretched mobo version is. ::blushes::

I guess I'd still like to have the mobo id information for the sake of
anal-retentive completeness, though.  If nothing else, it will give a (very)
rough indication of if the machine is stock or not. ::shrugs::


This answer (the part you cut out of your re-post) is correct:

IIRC, a board with an ATI 3D Rage ll + DVD  chip is a Rev 1 board
Rage Pro is a Rev 2, and Rage Pro + DVD is Rev 3

I reconfirmed it in my beige troubleshooting search excursions. There are some differences related to upgrades and performance between the three, none of which I've mentally retained, so it is good to know what you have under the hood.
