Sounds like the scanner; you ruled out drivers and systems, the only thing left is the scanner. Sounds like it lost blue or green capabilities.
I don't know about the Umax, but my Canon Canoscan had a scanner calibration routine in the driver. You might look to see if the scanner's just confused.
