I have the same drive and just now accessed a data DVD (under X.3.7).
Actually, and *old* DVD from PC Format magazine that I had lying around.

Are you trying to read DVD-R/RW? That spec may have come out *after* the
drive was manufactured and may well be unreadable. I haven't had need of
that yet.

Aside from that, all I could think of (barring hardware problems) is a
preference gone awry. Has this been a recent problem?
