Nope, you're thinking of *disk* repair. In fact doing permissions repair from your older installer is a recipe for problems, as system updates will change the permissions database Apple uses to reset those things.
In short, you can never run disk repair on your boot disk from your boot disk, and you should ALWAYS run permissions repair on your boot disk from your boot disk.
