I've never heard of any particular limit to the length of line between the jack and the modem, if that's what you mean. There might be issues if the piece of line is of poor quality, causing noise or distortion, but other than that, to the device on the end of the line, for all practical purposes it looks the same if it's 5 feet or 50. I think you'd have to go a lot longer than that before attenuation became a factor. In fact, that's what I used to use to connect my modem before broadband: a 50 foot extension.
